Servers

There are a few development servers setup for testing in preparation for the next release of the Exile game and LOC server.

WARNING: The maps on these servers may get corrupted or lost due to bugs in code we are testing. Expect the maps on these servers may get reset without notice. As a general rule, every effort is made to preserve old maps and data when possible.

The current plans are for the Fixed Seed Servers (EX8 and EX9) to be long term servers players can paste schematics from other worlds. Work is being done to automate this process, but for now it is manual. If you create anything you want a schematic of or want it moved forward, let izzyb know in chat.

IRC Channel

The dev servers share the irc channel #exile-v4. You can cross talk between servers and via the IRC channel on the IRCNOW network.

Exile Dev Servers

Land of Exile v4 Alpha

There is now an official published server running Exile v4 Alpha. Its still in testing phase, with the new plant system provided by ireallyhateirc. Plants now die and the landscape changes with changing seasons. Farming is a little harder due to the need to plant in the right season. Expect to find bugs and occasional crashes.

Fixed Seed Servers

There are a set of servers using a seed provided by Yad but with the different mapgen options available. It'll give you an idea how the mapgen changes the surface. Things like placement of rings, caves, vent shafts and the underground city should be the same between servers as they are generated based on the fixed Seed. These are intended to be long term servers where players can paste schematics they made in other Exile worlds.

A process is needed to auto migrate schematics forward when these maps need to get reset. The basic idea will be to allow players to claim an area that will be added to a table of areas to auto generate schematics for and place them in the freshly generated map. The fixed seeds on these servers should make it easy to automate this process.

Experimentation Servers

Additional servers exist for trying new ideas.

Mt. Meru Server

Mt. Meru is a new generated tower that appears at the centre of the map. It was provided as a PR#203 from Dokimi. This is still very experimental with no plans for including it in the v4 release. This server will be a sneak peek at what is coming for the next major release (v5). Flying, fast, and noclip, creative, and teleportation are enabled for all players by default.

TIP: Find the shoes in creative inventory and put them on. They're an admin tool to protect you from damage and environment effects.

The scifi-nodes mod has been added to let us play with adding some new nodes to the game in the future. You can check out the available nodes in the creative inventory.

Tsaplop Cactus

A new cactus is being tested for the barren land biomes. It's a cactus that can be used for sticks or food atm. Long term it will provide sticks and food. The cactus meat has same food levels as Lambakap mushrooms currently. The goal was to make barren land survivable using just what can be found in them if you choose to make a home there. It's like playing on hard. Expect to eat lots of bugs and need to farm Tsaplops for food, Jogalan for sticks and Tashvish for fibre. Tip: You can burn thatch blocks which have a 50% chance of becoming small fires. Small extinguished wood fires can be combined to large extinguished wood fires by right clicking one with an extinguished small fire in your hand. This makes it possible to produce charcoal using thatch since sticks are so hard to come by in barren lands.

Temperature Depth Experiments

'''NOTE: These experiments have concluded. The end result was the addition of a couple of configurable options: exile_av_temp and exile_av_temp_depth. exile_av_temp is the average room temperature you'll approach in a shelter or at depths below exile_av_temp_depth. The default value for exile_av_temp is 15, and the default for exile_av_temp_depth is -12. At this depth you are no longer impacted by above ground weather changes. These remain the recommended settings.

Server: exile-biomes.planetofnix.com
Ports: 30006
Seed: random
Game Branch: v4
Mapgen: Valleys

Running with av_temp_depth set at y=-70 instead of the default y=-12. The idea being to make temperatures in caves less stable year round. At this depth, av_temp of 15c is reached and stable.

Server: exile-biomes.planetofnix.com
Ports: 30004
Seed: random
Mapgen: Valleys

Running with av_temp set to 9c instead of 15c. This impacts temperatures in shelters above ground as well as underground temperatures. The default av_temp_depth of y=-12 is used. This makes for a slightly harder game at start but fully survivable.
